All About Adalynn #birthstory #firsttwoweeks

Our baby girl has arrived and what a ride it was to get her here! We love her so much and are now enjoying being a family of 3! Here is her birth story and all about her first few weeks of life <3

39 Weeks :)

The last few weeks of my pregnancy, my blood pressure sky rocketed for my weekly doctor visits. My doctor became concerned and wanted to do some other tests to make sure the baby was ok. I was 38 weeks and my bottom diastolic number is supposed to be under 89 and it was in the high 90s. I had to come back a few days later to be rechecked. It was then in the low 100s and it had only been 2 days. The doctor was very worried and had us do some fetal monitoring in the office and run a stress test on baby. She didn't do too great so the doctor sent us down for an ultrasound a few hours later to check the amount of fluid around the baby. All looked good there, so I was put on strict bedrest and had to come back in a few days to recheck everything.

A few days later, it was still high despite being on bedrest, so we were sent to labor and delivery to do fetal monitoring again. She did better on the stress test that time, but my high blood pressure was still a concern. I went in for my 39 week appointment and my blood pressure was still in the 90s. We weighed our options with my doctor for induction and wanted to make sure that it was the best route to go for both mine and baby's safety without having to have a C-Section. We scheduled for induction for the next morning bright and early, which was Tuesday, April 29th. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much that night! I made sure the house was clean from top to bottom and that we had everything packed and ready. After being completely miserable for the last month of the pregnancy, it was hard to grasp that it was actually happening finally!

We had to be up to the hospital at 6am on Tuesday. The plan was to start with tablets to thin my cervix since I was only 70% effaced and not dilated at all, even though my due date was only 4 days away! Yikes! Then after the tablets, start the Pitocin.

We got up to labor and delivery bright and early the next morning, got in my cute little gown, and was ready to meet our little girl!

The nurse came in to take my blood right off the bat. I have never had an issue with it before, but this time didn't go so hot....Go figure! About 10 minutes after she had taken my blood, I blacked out, eyes rolled back, blood pressure dropped, throwing up, the whole nine yards.... Several nurses came running in and watched the baby's heart rate closely since it had dropped with what had happened...Ughhh it was horrible. I was quite shaken up. Normally, they don't start your IV until you start the Pitocin, which wasn't supposed to be till much later in the day. Due to my lovely blacking out episode, I had to have one right after that to keep fluids through me. I was less than thrilled to say the least!

A nurse came in to place my IV and that didn't go so hot EITHER! She tried on my left hand first and blew out my vein. SO painful!! Then she tried on my right hand and blew that vein too... I was not a happy camper! Soon after that, a new nurse came on shift and she got it in back on my left hand. By that point I was pretty emotional and was worried that if what had gone on so far was any indication of how the day was going to go, we were in for a real ride.....

After all that morning fun, which put us a little bit behind, the nurse came in to place the first tablet. I spent the morning watching TV and just hanging out. After 4 hours, I was checked and there was no progress, so another tablet was placed. It was a long a boring day just waiting around while the tablets did their magic. Around 4pm that afternoon, my doctor came in and said I was almost completely thinned out and we could start the Pitocin! I was so happy beings that most people have to do about 4 tablets and I only had to do 2. The Pitocin was started and away we went :)

Contractions didn't start to get uncomfortable or overly strong till about 8pm that night. My mom was going to head up to from Twin Falls the next morning, but ended up heading up that night and arrived at the hospital right before the doctor came in to check me at about 10pm. I was dilated to a 3 and he broke my water. No turning back now! My mom headed to sleep at our house, and me and Jordan knew we were in for a long night :)

After my water was broke, my contractions started coming hard and fast. I was squeezing Jordan's hand so hard and right in all the painful places! I had really strong and close together contractions for about an hour and half straight and then was given the epidural. I was so exhausted and after having the epidural, I was so out of it. I was able to sleep for about an hour and a half thank goodness and woke up to some exciting news! The nurse came in to check me at 3:30 am and was baffled that in that short amount of time, I had gone from 4cm to 9 1/2 cm! She had to double and triple check to make sure she was imagining things :) I was so relieved. It was 4am, but I was rejuvenated and ready to get the show on the road! I called and talked to my dad before he left for work in Twin Falls, and he could definitely tell I was drugged up on my epidural because I was all laid back and relaxed. He couldn't believe I was that chill and dilated to a 10!

That night, there was sooo many women having babies! The nurse said I was complete, but my doctor was in doing a C section so I had to hold off and wait for him. He came in around 5am and discovered that not only was I complete, but baby girl was face up instead of face down even though she was head down. He wanted to turn me several times over the next few hours to see if she would shift, but no luck :( The doctor came in a little after 8 in the morning and I started to push. After about 6 or 7 pushes, she was out at 8:35 am!

What an overwhelming feeling to meet her for the first time and to have her laying on my chest! She just laid there staring at me and I just stared back at her, examining all her beautiful features. A rush of emotion came over me... We were a family and I was a mom! What an amazing feeling! She came out chomping at the bit to eat... A girl after my own heart <3 ha ha!

My mom came in from out in the waiting room while she was getting weighed and cleaned up. She weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces, 20 inches long and was perfect! We decided on the name Adalynn Claire. We took some pictures, talked to friends and family, and soaked in her preciousness before moving into our recovery room.

Grandma Morrow couldn't get enough of her and we were so grateful to have her help getting situated in the hospital and transitioning all our stuff.

Adalynn had a bit of trouble keeping her body temperature up right after she was born, so we had her wrapped up tight in several layers! She is such a laid back baby! For all her tests, she took them like a champ. She stuck her heel out for them to prick and didn't even cry!

Throughout the day we had several visitors come to see us and had several treats delivered to our room! We have great friends! My dental office send a big candy bouquet up to our room, and 2 of the girls from work came up to see us! Briana, our hygienist came with a huge bunch of flowers, and Jen, our receptionist came and brought some candy and a pedicure gift certificate! Loved seeing the girls :) Kim Hemmert also came up to see us and so did our friends Jon and Allie <3 It was nice to see friends and share baby girl with them!

The hospital would normally have us stay that night, but since we had already been there 2 days from being induced, I was ready to be in my own bed and be home. We had our "celebration dinner" at the hospital that night and then asked to be discharged later that night. Adalynn headed in to the nursery for the on call pediatrician to discharge her and she passed with flying colors! The other babies were screaming so loud in there and she just laid in her bed all calm and relaxed, waiting for her turn :) That's my girl!

We were so happy to be heading home finally!

The next day (May 1st) was my birthday. Yes baby girl was born the day before! Crazy huh?! It was a great day to just spend with our new baby, the hubs, and my mom. Jordan had to work, but met up with me and my mom for lunch at a favorite restaurant. We also dropped in at my work to say hi to everyone and to let them see Adalynn. She wasn't fond of her carseat that is for sure, but she looked like a little cupcake!

My mom brought Scooter with her, and boy was he jealous of Adalynn getting all my mom's attention. The first few days he seemed pretty jealous, but then he became really protective of her and was everywhere she was :) It was pretty funny!

Friday, May 2nd, we had to take Adaylnn to see her pediatrician, Dr. Justis, for her 2 day check. She said hi to the nurse taking her weight by peeing all over her right off the bat....ha ha
She did great on all her tests and looked great. The only concern that the doctor had was that she had a mild case of jaundice. When she was born, she had a large bruise on the crown of her head due to sitting in the birth canal for so long while they were trying to turn her face down. That bruise was a large reason for the mild case of jaundice. We had to take her down to have her heel pricked to test her bilirubin level. If it was too high, she would have to be admitted to the hospital because our po dunk town doesn't have the take home lights or jaundice blankets. I was so angry! She did great while they took a vile of blood from her heel and tested at a 13. She had to be under 20 to not be admitted, so that was a bit of a relief. Over the next few days we put her in the light before we had to take her back on Sunday to get rechecked.

In the meantime, my dad and brother made the trip up from Twin Falls for a quick 2 day trip to see Adalynn. They fell in love with her too! We had fun hanging out at the house, going to Costco, and getting yummy Chinese food.

We took Adalynn back in that Sunday to be recheck for her jaundice and find out if she had to be admitted. I was upset about them having to take another vile of blood from her heel. That was horrible to watch the first time, let alone them doing it again! Instead of going down to the lab, we headed up to the nursery and ended up being able to check her weight and do an ultraviolet check on her chest instead of having her heel drawn again. She had gained weight back and her level was even lower, so she was able to come back home! Yay! I was so relieved :)

My dad and brother had to head back to Twin Falls right after we left the hospital on Sunday, but my mom stayed till Wednesday to help me recover and help us with Adalynn.

Here are a few a ton of pictures from her first week!

The first week was rough to say the least. I expected recovery to be not so fun and painful, but not exactly the hand I was dealt! The day after delivery, my feet swelled up insanely to the point that I couldn't even walk. I had severe Edema for the first week and it was so uncomfortable! I looked like a 90 year old lady that had severely swollen feet and couldn't walk. It was horrible. Nothing helped either! I was told I had to just wait it out... Not fun! They looked about 10x worse than my bad swelling from when I was pregnant. I didn't even know that was possible.... I was stuck on the couch most of the time and the ice didn't help!

I also had trouble with my stitches and not so fun troubles with breastfeeding on top of my crazy swelling in my feet, hands, and face. And to add one more thing to my recovery list, I have severe carpal tunnel in my right wrist that still hasn't gone away! Between pregnancy complications and recovery misery, I wasn't dealt a very nice hand! But all that matters is that our baby girl is here safe and is healthy. I can't get over how beautiful she is!!

Before my mom left on Wednesday, I took Adalynn's newborn photos. LOVE them! She was such a doll and slept like a champ :)

The day after my mom left, it was time to give Adalynn her first bath! It was short and sweet. She hated it! Screamed bloody murder the entire time... you would have thought we were torturing her! Such a little stinker :) Her 2nd bath was much better, but the initial photo op wasn't so pleasant!

Just a few days after, I got to celebrate my first Mother's Day! It was a quiet relaxing day at home. We had dinner over at some friends' house later that afternoon and just enjoyed being together. I got 2 dozen roses from Jordan and Adalynn. I am so blessed!

I am still so amazed how much of a little personality Adalynn has even being only 2 weeks old! She has her own little attitude and already knows that she runs the show :) She loves her binki and has a wide array of facial expressions! She smiles a lot and has a specific "grunt" when you do something that she doesn't like or she is mad ha ha It is too funny! I am so glad that we ended up getting video monitors, otherwise I would be in her room every 5 seconds. She is such a loud sleeper! Always grunting and stretching and making funny noises. She sure loves her beauty sleep! We were sure blessed with such a good baby. She hardly cries, except when she is hungry! She definitely has her days and nights mixed up though, but hopefully she will get on a schedule soon :)

That's the 411 in a nutshell! We are so blessed to have Adalynn here and are soaking up every minute with her! She has turned our world upside down and I never knew you could love a little baby so much. I am overwhelmed with emotion and could just sit and stare at her all day! She has Jordan wrapped around her finger and he is such a good dad! He took the week off after my mom left and has hung out with me and Adalynn at home. It has been great having him off work to enjoy time together!

Snuggles with mom <3

Finally caught her eyes open! She is always sleeping :) Love this little peanut!

Dad burps the best :)

Love,
Jordan & Elise
